Sublimed salicylic acid
A white crystalline powder, odorless. The dry substance has an initial melting point of 158°C or higher. Its aqueous solution is acidic and turns purple in the presence of FeCl₃. This compound is poorly soluble in cold water, soluble in boiling water, readily soluble in alcohols and ethers, and slightly soluble in chloroform.
