Pharmaceutical-grade salicylic acid
This product is a white powder or crystalline granules, odorless. The dry substance has an initial melting point of 158–161°C and sublimes under atmospheric pressure above 76°C. Its aqueous solution is acidic and turns purple in the presence of FeCl₃. It is poorly soluble in cold water but soluble in boiling water; it dissolves readily in alcohols and ethers, and is slightly soluble in chloroform.
