Physicochemical properties: This product is a white powder or crystalline granules, odorless. The dry substance has an initial melting point of 158–161°C and sublimes under atmospheric pressure above 76°C. Its aqueous solution is acidic and turns purple in the presence of FeCl₃. The compound is poorly soluble in cold water, soluble in boiling water, readily soluble in alcohols and ethers, and slightly soluble in chloroform.
