Industrial salicylic acid is a white, crystalline powder found in nature in willow bark, wintergreen leaves, and sweet birch. The term “salicylic” derives from the Latin word “Salix,” the Latin name for willow. Industrial salicylic acid boasts excellent exfoliating and pore‑cleansing properties; it is widely available at wholesale industrial grades, highly safe, and less irritating to the skin than alpha hydroxy acids, making it a rising star in skincare formulations. It can help fade pigmentation spots, minimize pores, reduce fine lines, and improve signs of photoaging caused by sun exposure.

Industrial salicylic acid shall be inspected by the technical inspection department of the manufacturing plant, which shall ensure that all batches of industrial salicylic acid leaving the factory comply with this standard. Each batch of industrial salicylic acid shall be accompanied by a certificate of quality in the prescribed format. The receiving user shall verify the received industrial salicylic acid in accordance with all provisions of this standard to confirm its compliance. Determination of industrial salicylic acid content: reagents and solutions—sodium hydroxide–ethanol solution; naphtholphthalein indicator. Procedure: Weigh an appropriate amount of industrial salicylic acid, dissolve it completely, and dilute with distilled water to a pale green color; accurately weigh a specified quantity of analytical‑grade ethanol solution. Using a pipette, transfer a measured volume of solution B containing phenol; prepare the standard solution by pipetting a known volume of phenol standard solution C into a specified volume of aminopyrine solution. Use the solution within three days; weigh a precise amount of phenol, accurate to analytical grade, and dissolve it in water.
