How much do you know about the sublimation of salicylic acid and its color changes?
Sublimation of salicylic acid yields white blocks and powder, which may exhibit a slight yellowish or pale pink tinge; it is odorless, with a mildly sweet taste that turns pungent. It remains unchanged upon exposure to air. Above 76°C, it sublimes under atmospheric pressure; when heated at atmospheric pressure, it readily undergoes decarboxylation to form phenol and carbon dioxide. Its aqueous solution is acidic, and it gives a purple color with FeCl3. The substance is slightly soluble in water, soluble in boiling water, readily soluble in ethanol, and sparingly soluble in chloroform.
